President's Message 2012
Alisha Cox Southern - President

In 2012-2013 the focus of the President’s special project is Hunger, specifically speaking in terms of Children. Nationwide 1 in every 5 children do not get sufficient food.

But in North Carolina the rate is 1 in every 4 children do not get sufficient food, meaning they go hungry.

North Carolina is ranked 11th highest Nationwide in households with children that face food hardships.
That is unbelievable. A state and nation where we have so much wealth; we also have so many people who cannot feed their families, not because they may not want to but because they cannot.

I know that Mount Airy Junior Woman’s Club cannot fix all of the problems in Surry County  or even in North Carolina.

Nonetheless, I feel like if we as clubwomen strive to help just 1 person each then we are making the baby steps our community needs that will create momentum and ripples not only through our community but extend to others.

We are an amazing group of Women with a tremendous amount of help from the community in which we choose to serve. Let’s Be the change for our community.

“If you cannot feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”
